[1] In north-central Alberta, but by 1994 involves an historic band across southern Alberta & Saskatchewan. Simultaneously, a major epidemic in the MacKenzie Bison Sanctuary involving some 180 wood bison.

[6] Winnipeg Zoo: 3 bison (Bison bison) and 1 white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus); a cow bison and her calf were noted to be ill but responded quickly to treatment with antibiotics. All other animals at risk were vaccinated. Cause unknown but suspected to be related to the earth mound in the compound.
[7] On July 14 the first dead bison was found in the south part of WBNP near the Peace River. Later a second cluster was found in the Salt Plains area. Total: 106 bison of anthrax, mostly bulls; two calves died of starvation; and two black bears of anthrax, presumably from scavenging carcasses.
