[1] 1992-1996 human case numbers taken from GIDEON. In 1993, 77.2% cases were in Castilla la Mancha, Castilla Leon, & Aragon; in 1995, 80% were in Castilla la Mancha, Aragon, Castilla Leron, & Extramadura. During 1965-73, there were 2,685 cases (298+/yr); 1974-81, 1,996 cases (294.5/yr). In 1996 75% cases were in Aragon, Castilla la Mancha, and Extramadura.
[2] The widespread nature of this disease and high human incidence indicates a lack of control. Similarly the absence of veterinary data does not engender confidence of the control efficiency.
