[1] OIE report states that since the controls were applied the disease has been confined to the central states. However as the government has little control away from the main highways, the reality will be different.
[2] Reported mainly in the central sector (Sinar State).
[3] “Anthrax is endemic in many parts of Sudan” but is “now restricticted to small foci in the central part of the country.” In August 1999 the disease was reported “in Western Sudan” in two separate outbreaks involving cattle and goats. The reality remains obscure.
[4] O.I.E. lists this as 53,879,000 sheep (28,748k) & goats (25,131k).
[5] In February, 1988, in Kulbus on the Chad border 6 dromedaries and 10 people were affected, with 5/10 humans dying of gastroenteric anthrax.
