After obtaining his B.S. degree in horticulture, Dr. Stout returned to LSU and completed his D.V.M. in 1994 followed by a residency in Laboratory Animal Medicine. He is currently working on a Ph.D. in Pathology at Louisiana State University. Currently Dr. Stout is employed by the Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine as Chief Clinical Veterinarian and as an Instructor within the Department of Pathology. He trains residents in the Laboratory Animal Medicine program as well as senior veterinary students taking elective courses in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Additionally he oversees wet lab training for investigators, technicians, and students for fulfillment of their research protocols as well as Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee obligations.
Research Interests
Areas of research interests include using the rat as a model for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), in particular mechanisms of respiratory control that may be induced by endogenous alcohol production and products of its biotransformation. Additionally Dr. Stout is interested in biologic control of introduced species, in particular the nutria as well as a broad interest in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
