As a pathologist and diagnostician Dr. Snider actively studies naturally occurring and experimental disease of animals with an emphasis on bovine conditions. He has been a lecturer on the diseases of the immune, gastrointestinal, endocrine, cardiovascular, and respiratory systems for over 22 years, in the professional and graduate veterinary pathology curricula. Dr. Snider is a speaker for the Board of Regents/LA EPSCoR Science and Engineering Speakers Bureau "SPEAKING OF SCIENCE" program. He is also an active faculty participant in University governance as President of the LSU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors and by service on numerous school and university committees. Dr. Snider's community volunteer activities include the Baton Rouge Magnet High School Parent Faculty Club, the Baton Rouge Stamp Club, the Louisiana Soccer Association, and the St. Aloysius Ushers Society.
Research Interests
The research investigations of Dr. Snider have focused on three major diseases of cattle: Ostertagioisis, Paratuberculosis, and Bovine Immunodeficiency Virus Syndrome. His current efforts are focused on the documentation, through molecular methodology and histopathology, of disease production by the bovine lentivirus, the bovine immunodeficiency virus, especially the brain and lymphoid tissue lesions, along with documentation of the opportunistic diseases. He has written reviews for animal lentiviral diseases which can be found at http://www.vetmed.lsu.edu/biv/ with the proposed International Animal Lentivirus Association. Cooperative research agreements focused on BIV and other disease of cattle have been reached with scientists in Argentina at the Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia Agropecuaria and in Venezuela at the Instituto Venezolano de Investigaciones Cientifcas.
