Dr. Louise McFarland is employed by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health, New Orleans, Louisiana.  She has been State Epidemiologist since 1989 and is Chief of the Office’s Epidemiology Section.  She is a member of both the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.  Dr. McFarland has come to the department on a number of occasions to deliver seminars on current public health topics.

Research Interests

Zoonotic diseases and their impact on the public health are some of Dr. McFarland’s main interests.  Her association with ECH provides the department with an ideal link with state-wide veterinary problems of potential public health implications that have been reported to the Office of Public Health.
