Dr. Hidalgo Joined the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1985 as Associate
Dean. He served as Director of Veterinary Computer Resources. Prior to coming to LSU, Dr. Hidalgo served for 11 years in the College of
Veterinary Medicine, Texas A & M University, where he was Professor of
Veterinary Microbiology. He then spent eight years at Mississippi State
University where he assisted in founding the College of Veterinary Medicine.
While at Mississippi State, Dr. Hidalgo held the positions of Professor,
Administrative Officer, Director of Research and Head of the Department of
Veterinary Science. Dr. Hidalgo has served on the Editorial Boards of the
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Journal of
Veterinary Research, the Journal of Veterinary Medical Education. He edited
proceedings of two National Hemoparasite Disease Conferences and co-edited at
book on the proceedings of an international symposium on bovine brucellosis.
He
served as Directory Editor, Board of Governors and Chairman of the Board of
Governors of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. He has also
served two terms on the Committee of Veterinary Medical Informatics of the
American Veterinary Medical Association and was involved in the development of
the AVMA Network on Animal Health (NOAH).
Research Interests
Over his career in academia, Dr. Hidalgo has conducted research on bovine respiratory diseases, salmonellosis in white-tailed deer, bovine anaplasmosis and eperythozoonosis, bovine brucellosis, clostridial diseases of animals, biochemical characterization of Leptospira, Clostridium and bovine mycoplasmas and lipid nutrition of bovine mycoplasmas. He was Graduate Advisor for Department of Veterinary Microbiology and served on the Graduate Committees of 33 M.S. and 26 Ph.D. students while at Texas A & M University. He also managed the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. While at Mississippi State University, he supervised the Microbiology Laboratory of the Teaching Hospital and served on the Graduate Council of the University.
