Laura Riggs is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and attended veterinary school at the University of Tennessee graduating in 2001. She completed a rotating large animal internship at the University of Georgia in 2002 and remained in Athens for a large animal surgery residency. During her residency, she began a PhD in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology studying laminitis. She completed her residency in 2005 and became a clinical instructor in large animal surgery. She graduated with a PhD in physiology in 2007 and became an assistant professor of equine surgery at LSU in January of 2008.
