A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available immediately in the lab of Dr. Yoshimura in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences to conduct projects funded by an NIH grant. The interest of the lab is the regulation of cyclic AMP signaling with particular attention to mammalian membrane-bound adenylyl cyclase. Postdoctoral Researcher. Inhalation Research Laboratory, Comparative Biomedical Sciences.
The Inhalation Research Laboratory in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine has one postdoctoral researcher position available for studying the role of acute and chronic pre- and postnatal exposures to environmental toxins (volatiles and particulates) on lung responses and on the development/exacerbation of respiratory and cardiac diseases. This position entails work with inhalation exposure, monitoring, and sampling systems. These include whole body and nose-only exposure chambers (cigarette smoke, petrochemical combustion products, environmental particulates, and volatile gases) and associated analytical equipment. Extensive microscopy, analytical chemistry, and molecular biology services are available through the School of Veterinary Medicine, including all of the resources needed for cytometry, genomics, and proteomics. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in biological or biomedical sciences or MD/DVM with equivalent training or experience. Additional Qualifications Desired: Experience in medicine, immunology, or toxicology; existing statistical skills, prior publication history, or previous inhalation related experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills are important for expected collaborative efforts. This Research Associate (RA) position is a full time (100%) position in a laboratory in the Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. The laboratory’s focus in on inhalable air pollutants, including cigarette smoke, and their roles in asthma and cardiovascular disease. The RA’s primary responsibility will be to work in the Respiratory Research laboratory and conduct experiments involving aerosol generation and delivery. Required qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, biology or related discipline. Other requirements: Laboratory experience with some of the following techniques preferred for all positions (at least 1 year experience required for RA2 and at least 2+ years required for RA3): aerosol generation and delivery, environmental measurements, data acquisition and a general knowledge of air handling systems. Must have good interpersonal, computer, and writing skills. Must be able to work independently on projects and to work extended hours as needed. This position requires some moderate to heavy lifting; standing at the lab bench to perform experiments; and good hand/eye coordination. Responsibilities: Operation and maintenance of environmental measurement instrumentation, aerosol generation, maintenance of air handling systems, and other procedures related to the research projects; data acquisition and analysis, trouble-shooting, diagnosis and problem solving as it relates to the research projects; assist in laboratory management, including inventory, ordering supplies, recordkeeping, etc.; conduct literature searches and assist in preparing research reports. Graduate Assistant position(s) supported by NIH/NCI grants are available to develop gene therapy/ immunostimulatory chemotherapy for treating cancer and to understand the underlying molecular mechanism. Potential research projects include developing novel immunostimulatory drugs and genes, indentifying downstream gene targets regulated by IL12/IL27 signaling, and identifying ligands that targets to tumor cells.
