  Graduate Program

School of Veterinary Medicine

The Department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences participates in the graduate program of the School of Veterinary Medicine leading to Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Veterinary Medical Sciences with a concentration in Comparative Biomedical Sciences. Major research concentrations in the department include Cancer Biology; Nervous, Endocrine and Cardiovascular Diseases; Toxicology and Environmental Health; and Developmental Biology and Tooth Development. The most recent rankings by the Chronicle of Higher Education placed the SVM graduate program sixth among all U.S. veterinary schools. This ranking was based on a faculty scholarly productivity index that takes into account publications, citations of faculty publications, and grants awarded to faculty. Find out more about our program by clicking a category below.

Applications to our graduate program are made on the web at:  http://appl003.lsu.edu/grad/gradschool.nsf/$Content/Applications?OpenDocument

Applications are accepted at any time, but we do not evaluate students for admission or financial assistance until completed application materials have been received, including official transcripts and three letters of recommendation. Application should be initiated at least six months prior to anticipated entry. Minimum criteria for admission include >3.0 gpa out of 4.0 on the US system scale, a combined verbal and quantitative GRE score of >1100, and, for international students, a TOEFL exam score (computer version) of >213 (or >79 internet version or >550 paper version). International students from non-English speaking countries accepted into the graduate program will be required to take an English proficiency test upon arrival, and may be asked to take supplemental courses to improve that proficiency. Finally, one of the graduate faculty members of the department must be interested in accepting you as a student in his/her laboratory - you are encouraged to review the graduate faculty profiles (faculty with * before their name) and contact those whose interests match yours.
