2006 Merck/Merial Veterinary Scholars Program Symposium

Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science:
Creating the Gumbo of Progress

August 3?6, 2006

The 2006 Merck/Merial Veterinary Scholar National Symposium, ?Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science: Creating the Gumbo of Progress,? will be held at the Cook Conference Center and Hotel at the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The symposium will provide opportunities for veterinary students engaged in formal research programs to present their work through poster sessions and network with their peers from 20 other veterinary colleges. They will also be able to interact with accomplished biomedical scientists working in a variety of disciplines during the formal and informal sessions. Abstracts for posters are due July 14, 2006.

Concurrent mini-symposia will be held on select topics during both days of the conference. Attendance of these sessions will be selected by the students based on their personal interests.

A Young Investigator Award Competition for graduate veterinarians pursuing advanced research training through doctoral or post-doctoral programs will be held for the second year. Five finalists will be invited to present their work and compete for significant cash prizes.

For more details on this event see the announcement on this web site. Eligible veterinarian-scientists are encouraged to submit their work for consideration.

The NIH/NCRR Training Directors will hold their meeting in conjunction with the Symposium for the first. This will give students another venue to meet with T32 post doctoral training grant directors to discuss future graduate training opportunities in biomedical research.

The costs for travel, lodging and meeting registration will be paid for Merck/Merial funded scholars. Institutions that wish to bring other students will be required to cover these expenses. A registration form for Merck/Merial funded scholars and a separate form for all other participants is attached. As in the past, students supported by Merck/Merial are expected to participate in the national summer scholar symposium.

Additional information will be added to this site as the date of the Symposium approaches.
