Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (Veterinary
Radiology/Tenure or Clinical-track)
Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences
This is a faculty position in the Department of
Veterinary Clinical Sciences with a concurrent
appointment to the professional staff of the Veterinary
Teaching Hospital and Clinics (VTH&C). The position is
available as a tenure track or clinical track
appointment. The successful candidate will be expected
to contribute toward the Department’s goals through
participation in didactic and tutorial instruction in
veterinary radiology and through independent and
collaborative research. Contribution to the VTH&C will
be through participation in the radiology service of
that unit. Required Qualifications: (All Levels)
D.V.M. or equivalent degree; Board certification or
board eligibility by the American College of Veterinary
Radiologists; (Associate Professor level) three years of
related research/clinical experience; (Full Professor
level) five years experience. Additional
Qualifications Desired: Postgraduate degree;
experience in clinical investigation and/or team
research; experience with CT and MRI imaging.
Responsibilities: Participates in the didactic and
tutorial instructional programs of the School of
Veterinary Medicine; cooperates with other faculty
members in the development of teaching programs, visual
aids and other instructional materials; participate in
the School’s research program as a team leader and
member; participates in and help supervise the radiology
service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital & Clinics;
cooperates with other clinical faculty in the clinical
and hospital practice; supports the emergency duty
clinicians through provision or supervision of radiology
service when requested; participates in the continuing
education and public relations programs of the School of
Veterinary Medicine. Salary and rank commensurate with
experience and qualifications. An offer of employment is

The
Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Louisiana
State University is searching for a small animal
orthopedic surgeon. This is a tenure-track faculty
position in the Department of Veterinary Clinical
Sciences with a concurrent appointment to the

TENURE TRACK OR CLINICAL TRACK
The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking dynamic
people to join its Section of Radiology.
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at
Louisiana State University is currently inviting
applications for tenure-track and clinical track faculty
positions in Diagnostic Imaging at the Assistant and
Associate Professor level. Requirements for the position
include a DVM or equivalent and Board certification or
board eligibility by the American College of Veterinary
Radiologist or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic
Imaging.
The caseload at the Veterinary
Teaching Hospital is diverse with small, large and
exotic patients making up most of its cases. The
hospital also changed over to digital imaging in 2005.
Large animal radiology is equipped with an Eklin DR
system and small animal radiology with Tru DR form Sound
Technologies. Both Vetpacs and efilm are used for image
viewing on top of the line 3 megapixel medical grade
Eizo gray scale monitors. Twenty-four image viewing
workstations are located throughout the hospital for use
with clients, in rounds or special procedures rooms. We
also feature separate ultrasound machines in both the
large and small animal sections, a nuclear imaging suite
with a gamma camera integrating to Mirage software and a
helical CT scanner (Picker) for both small and large
animal imaging and a 3-D work station. Small animal MRI
is currently performed off-site with plans for in-house
facilities in the near future. Standing MRI for horses
will be available on site in the coming summer. In
addition, our active oncology division performs
radiation therapy in-house with an IMRT-capable linear
accelerator. Our team includes four experienced
technicians and 1 office staff. The School of Veterinary
Medicine at Louisiana State University is dedicated to
the support and further development of its imaging
division and is seeking individuals who will help us
achieve our goals in research, teaching and service.

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Director, Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Clinics

Applications and nominations are being sought for the
position of Director, Veterinary Teaching Hospital and
Clinics (VTH&C) at the Louisiana State University School
of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). The Director is
responsible for overall leadership and administration of
the hospital including the development of a strategic
vision, implementation of sound fiscal strategies, and
creation of a culture that fosters high productivity and
a high standard of client service and patient care in a
teaching/learning environment. The appointee will lead
the development of new strategic initiatives, innovative
business models and strategic partnerships in
conjunction with the School administration including the
chairs of the Departments of Veterinary Clinical
Sciences, Pathobiological Sciences, and Comparative
Biomedical Sciences; and the Directors of the Equine
Health Studies Program and the Louisiana Animal Disease
Diagnostic Laboratory. The appointee will be a
high-energy entrepreneurial individual with excellent
personnel management skills and an understanding of the
markets for primary, secondary, and tertiary veterinary
services.
The successful candidate will
-
Serve as the chief administrator and financial
officer of the VTH&C answering directly to the Dean;
-
Assume a leadership role and take responsibility for
the quality, effectiveness, efficiency,
profitability, and the progress of the VTH&C;
-
Oversee the development and implementation of a
long-term business plan which will allow the
strategic development and expansion of the VTH&C
clinical activities while adapting the VTH&C to
future realities, including development of
partnerships with appropriate private, state and
federal entities;
-
Together with the Chiefs of Staff of the Small
Animal Hospital and the Large Animal Hospital, and
the Directors of the Equine Health Studies Program
and Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory
establish a close working relationship with VTH&C
personnel as well as local and regional referring
and practicing veterinarians and clientele;

Ensure that facilities and expertise at the VTH&C
are state-of-the-art and competitive on a local,
regional, and national basis; and
-
Participate in and facilitate the public relations,
marketing, communication, and development
initiatives of the VTH&C to external and internal
constituencies.
Based on credentials, the candidate may be eligible for
a professional/academic rank within the School of
Veterinary Medicine.
Qualified candidates must have
-
A DVM and/or MBA (MPA, MHA or related academic
credential would be valued);

Demonstrated leadership in financial and general
business management in a veterinary medical or
medical center setting, ideally in a teaching
hospital setting;
-
Demonstrated administrative and human resource
management skills;
-
A strong record of administrative and business
success in the public or private sectors; and
-
A clear vision of the future role of the SVM and VTH&C
in serving the needs of society and its many
constituencies.
Hospital administrative experience in a large veterinary
referral center is strongly preferred.
The VTH&C is the window to the SVM for the public
constituencies throughout the State of Louisiana and the
surrounding region. The hospital is a $9 million
business with great unfulfilled potential that is made
up of the Small and Large Animal Clinics with a case
load of approximately 23,000 cases per year. Specialty
services include Small Animal Internal Medicine,
Companion Animal Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery,
Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy, Medical and
Radiation Oncology, Cardiology, Dermatology,
Ophthalmology, Exotic Animal Medicine, Wildlife
Medicine, Equine Internal Medicine, Equine Surgery,
Equine Ambulatory, Theriogenology, Farm Animal Medicine
and Surgery, Production Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging,
Clinical Pathology, and a full service 24-hour Emergency
Clinic.
The VTH&C is the primary clinical teaching laboratory
for over thirty (30) residents and interns and over one
hundred (100) 4th
year veterinary students from the SVM as well as
affiliate programs with Ross University and St. George’s
University and (20) veterinary technology students from
affiliate programs at Delgado Community College and
Northwestern State University. Specialists practicing in
the teaching hospital are faculty in the departments of
Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Pathobiological
Sciences.
The SVM has an excellent group of faculty supported by
an outstanding base of state-of-the-art equipment. The
SVM is located on the west side of the LSU Baton Rouge
campus near the Mississippi River. One of the fastest
growing cities of the South; Baton Rouge is the State
Capitol and has become the major urban center of
Louisiana. The sub-tropical climate allows for a
tremendous diversity of year-round activities.
