After obtaining his B.S. degree in horticulture, Dr. Stout returned to LSU and completed his D.V.M. in 1994 followed by a residency in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Currently Dr. Stout is the Associate Director of the Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathobiological Sciences. He trains residents in the Laboratory Animal Medicine Residency program as well as professional degree veterinary students taking elective courses in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Dr. Stout oversees training for investigators, technicians, and students for fulfillment of their research protocols, as well as Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee obligations.

Research Interests
Areas of research interest include investigating the rat as a model for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), in particular mechanisms of respiratory control that may be modulated by endogenous ethanol production and products of its biotransformation.
