Education:
DVM, Kansas State University • MS, Kansas State University • PhD, Oklahoma State University
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Pathologists
Dr. Paulsen received his DVM in 1977 and MS in 1978 from Kansas State University. He was in private mixed, mostly bovine, veterinary practice until 1986, when he returned to get his PhD degree in Veterinary Pathology from Oklahoma State University in 1989. An Assistant Professor in Veterinary Pathology at LSU from 1989 to 1995, and Associate Professor at Mississippi State University from 1996-2000, he returned to LSU as a Professor in Pathobiological Sciences in August of 2001.
Research Interests
Bovine respiratory disease (shipping fever) has been a continuous research interest of his, especially the pathogenesis and immunity of disease caused by Mannheimia haemolytica. He is currently also involved in research using a murine model of asthma and a murine model of neurovirulence in herpesviruses.
