from various sources are available on a competitive basis for PhD students.

The Department of Pathobiological Sciences (PBS)
at the
Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine has stipends available for qualified
applicants seeking graduate training in infectious disease research. The
areas of research include bacteriology, immunology, parasitology, pathology,
vector-borne diseases, and virology. Funded projects in the department
include the pathogenesis of
Borrelia burgdorferi, molecular interactions between spotted fever group rickettsiae and
their tick hosts, molecular biology of herpes virus infections, simian
immunodeficiency virus pathogenesis of the enteric and central nervous
systems, contribution of chemokines to murine retrovirus-induced
neurological disease, brucellosis vaccine development and molecular genetic
approaches to
Edwardsiella pathogenesis. State-of-the-art
instrumentation available includes quantitative real-time PCR, microarray
analysis, laser capture microdissection, fluorescence and electron
microscopy, laser confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, proteomics, and BL-3
laboratory suites. Interested applicants should submit an application packet
