It’s tempting to associate small town America with only small veterinary practices, but this practice is an exception! Our practice boasts a staff of:
• Seven Veterinarians
• 38 Support Staff, including 14 Licensed Veterinary Technicians
• A handful of Veterinary Assistants
• A Hospital Administrator

Several of the technicians have been here for over 10 years. Your licensed veterinary technicians and assistants are responsible for blood work, X-ray and animal restraint...allowing you to focus your energy on where it’s needed most.

In 1984 there were only two veterinarians in the town of Casselton, population 2200, and the original owners of the practice, Dr. David Calderwood being one of the two, saw a great opportunity to establish a very high-end, mixed animal practice. The practice hasn’t stopped growing and now offers the following services to its clients within a 150 mile radius (including clientele that make the trip across state lines from Minnesota):

Small Animal Services:
• BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE
• RABBITS AND SMALL MAMMALS
• BLOOD TRANSFUSION
• COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE
• PET DENTAL CARE
• EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE
• ENDOSCOPY
• FULLY STOCKED PHARMACY
• EUTHANASIA SERVICES
• IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE
• IN-HOUSE LABORATORY
• INTERNAL MEDICINE
• MICROCHIPPING
• NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING
• PAIN MANAGEMENT
• DIGITAL RADIOLOGY
• SPECIALIZED SURGERY
• SURGERY
• ULTRASOUND

Equine Services:
• COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE
• EQUINE ARTIFICAL INSEMINATION
• EQUINE DENTAL CARE
• FARM CALLS
• OPHTHALMOLOGY
• DIGITAL RADIOLOGY
• SADDLE FIT
• ULTRASOUND

Large Animal Services:
• EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE
• FOOD ANIMAL SERVICES

We have full capabilities for handling cattle in our clinic or out on our clients’ farm. We have foremost portable chutes for cows or a calf table for small calves. We also have a hydraulic chute that can tip for hoof trims in our clinic. Services available for food animal care includes herd health (vaccinations, de-horns, castrations, nutrition, OB care), foot trims using automatic chute, semen testing bulls, and wellness exams for sick animals.

In addition to the above services, Casselton also features:
• Ultrasound
• Digital radiology
• Digital dental unit
• Tonometry
• Extensive in house lab
• Feline suite consists of 26 kennels. They are in different sizes to accommodate the large variety of kitties that visit us.
• Large and spacious dog kennel. There are 18 runs and 30 cages for dogs of all sizes
• Surgery Room
• Acupuncture/Chiropractic Treatment Room
• Cat Room
• Dog Room
• New equine stocks
• Equine Induction Room
• Equine surgery recovery room
• New Equine Stalls
• Hydraulic Cattle chute

As you can see, the practice has a wide array of services, supported by an experienced and dedicated support staff. Location is just as important as the practice itself and while Casselton is a small town, the city of Fargo is within a 20 minute drive. Spouses needing employment can easily find work in Fargo and residents of Casselton can head to the town for ‘big-city’ amenities.

Our practice is currently looking for a full-time associate to add to their team. The new associate will see a caseload that is about 2% beef, 2% dairy, 16% equine, 60% canine and 20% feline. The right candidate will be rewarded with:

• Competitive Salary based on experience
• Health insurance
• AVMA/State dues
• CE
• Travel expenses

The practice operates during the following hours and emergency duty is shared by all veterinarians.

Monday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Tuesday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Wednesday 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

Details:

Progressive mixed animal medicine in a small town setting! Located in Beulah, ND (northwest of Bismarck), this two doctor practice would like to add a third full-time associate. The owners bring nearly 30 years of experience to the table and are eager to mentor a new graduate and prepare the ideal candidate for eventual ownership.

The practice’s case load is currently:
• 50% Small Animal
• 45% Beef (Predominately cow/calf with a little feedlot)
• 5% Equine (Predominately ranch and pleasure with a little breeding)

The clinic is looking for someone who appreciates the pleasures of practicing mixed animal medicine in a rural setting. A third veterinarian will have the opportunity to see a variety of cases, backed with mentorship, a modern facility and an efficient team. In addition to sharing the current caseload, the new veterinarian will be encouraged to pursue his/her own area of special interest.

In addition to practicing excellent medicine and staying true to the philosophy that the client comes first, the clinic believes in the importance of a work/life balance. As with most rural practices, the clinic does see its own emergencies which will be evenly split between the three veterinarians. To compensate doctors for emergency work, the doctor on-call will receive the full emergency fee if he/she is required to go in. Since emergency work can be taxing at times, doctors receive three weeks of vacation each year and get a three day weekend every third weekend. The clinic is open from 8AM-6PM Monday through Friday and 8:00AM until noon on Saturday.

A third associate will be joining us in our new facility (built in 2002) complete with bovine and equine treatment and surgical areas, small animal exam rooms, surgery, x-ray, kennel areas, and an isolation room. Most of the work is in the clinic, yet a vehicle provided for country calls.

The facilities are complimented by an experienced support staff of four veterinary technicians, kennel staff and a groomer.

We are happy to reward the right candidate with:
• Competitive starting salary based on experience
• Group Health Insurance
• Simple IRA
• AVMA & NDVMA memberships
• ND license renewal
• CE allowance
• Pet Care Discounts

In addition to the desire to practice medicine in a rural setting, candidates must:
• Be familiar with how to handle/work large and small animals
• Possess excellent communication skills
• Enjoy interacting with clients

The management style of the owners revolves around mentorship up front with the new associate earning independence as he/she matures and becomes comfortable. There will be no hand-holding here, but candidates can count on the full support of the doctors and staff as they’re learning the ropes.

The location of the practice is just as important as the practice itself and Beulah, North Dakota is a small, yet prosperous town of near 3,000 with great schools, services, and recreation. The community is friendly with a low cost of living and high quality of life. More information on the community can be found at: www.beulahnd.org
