Inhibin

 

  • Peptide produced by granulosa cells in growing follicle.
  • Inhibits FSH release and possibly FSH binding to granulosa cells.
  • Prevents further follicular stimulation and allows only 'one' follicle to be selected in monotocous species.
  • Alpha and beta subunits can combine
  • Alpha - 1
  • Beta - A and beta-B
  • Alpha-1 + beta-A or beta - B - inhibits FSH.
  • Beta -A + beta-B causes FSH stimulation.
