Cell nuclei in the hypothalamus have direct neural
contact with the brain.
Releasing factors, such as GnRH,
are secreted from the hypothalamus as a result of direct neural
stimulation. The GnRH is released to portal vessels, which then transport
it to the anterior pituitary.
Some cell bodies extend directly to the posterior pituitary
to release oxytocin via direct neural stimulation.
