Light Years Ahead – Class IV
Laser Therapy
Learn why so many practices are incorporating Class IV
Laser Therapy into their overall patient management
protocols. Excellent for virtually any application
that calls for reduction of pain, reduction of
inflammation, and acceleration of healing, the Class
IV Therapy Laser is appropriate for the treatment of a
wide diversity of patients.
Laser therapy is gaining widespread acceptance as a
standard of veterinary care for a growing number of
applications. The science behind this exciting new
laser modality will be explored, followed by
presentation of numerous case studies. How other
practices have successfully implemented Class IV laser
therapy will be covered. Opportunity will be given for
participants to have hands on time with a therapy
laser.
Course Times – 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm

The
Technical
Large Animal Emergency Rescue course (TLAER)
is a 3-day course sponsored by the LSART (ie. provided
at minimal cost to participants), LSU-EHSP, LSU-FETI,
and LSU-SDMI. It is intended to train veterinarians,
first responders, and other animal care personnel to
work together to save animal lives without
compromising human life. The course is an intensive
hands-on & class room training. It will include water,
mud, and vehicular rescue, as well as a helicopter
lift, and a night search and medical rescue exercise.
The course instructors are Drs. Rebecca & Tomas
Gimenez – both VMRT members (see
www.tlaer.org).
Tomas is a member of the AAEP Disaster Committee and
has recently written a text book on large animal
emergency rescue.
We are very fortunate (and excited) about working with
the LSU Fire Emergency Training Institute (FETI) here
on the LSU campus. They are equally enthusiastic about
working with us as well as collaborating on possible
future course development for technical animal rescue
training.
There are 30 slots available for this course in March.
Priority participation will be given to LSART (LSART.org)
and first responders involved in emergency planning
and response in our state.

The
Gulf States Consortium of Colleges of
Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, Mississippi State University,
Louisiana State University, Texas A&M University, and the University
of Florida is offering a four-week aquatic animal pathobiology course,
AQUAMED, from June 2–28, 2008. The objective of AQUAMED is to
impart an understanding of health management techniques and pathological
processes relating to the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of important
aquatic animal diseases. Ornamental fish, commercially important fin fish,
and shellfish will be emphasized. An overview of reptiles, marine mammals,
and aquatic laboratory animals will be presented. Nationally and
internationally recognized individuals will present topics relating to
culture, maintenance, and health care of aquatic animals. Class size will
be limited in order to allow maximum hands-on activities. Weeks 1, 2, and
4 will
be held at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Week 3 will be conducted at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) facility in Cocodrie, LA.
