Capital Improvement Projects

Equine Isolation Unit
Still in the planning stage, this building will house horses with infectious, contagious diseases and potentially zoonotic diseases. The stand-alone facility, expanding from two to ten stalls, will be constructed following standard isolation facility design. The unit is crucial for us to be able to safely and successfully treat the ever-increasing number of horses admitted with infectious disease.

Equine Reproduction Unit
This facility, also in the planning stage, will enable leading-edge investigation of mare and stallion infertility. This stand-alone building will contain an equine reproduction laboratory, clinical work area, stalls for housing stallions and mare/foals, tease rail, breeding area, and stallion collection area. The laboratory will be used for semen evaluation, embryo transfer, and biotechnology, assisted reproductive techniques, and other advanced technologies.

Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana
Plans are underway for construction of this facility, which will facilitate emergency treatment and rehabilitation of sick and injured wildlife. With immediate access to Board-certified specialists, the WHL will provide the utmost care for wild mammals, birds, and reptiles. The facility will also play a major role in educating the public, and especially our youth, on the importance of wildlife conservation.

Milton J. Womack Serenity Garden
The Milton J. Womack Serenity Garden, located near the Small Animal Clinic entrance, celebrates the bond between man and animals. Construction of the Serenity Garden was completed in the fall of 2003 with a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Milton J. Womack.

Your donation can be used toward the bronze sculpture and landscaping to complete the garden. Or you can purchase an engraved brick in honor or memory of those special animals who have shared their lives with us or of a special person who has been a true friend to animals.
