Graduate
Record Examination (GRE)
Applicants
must take the General
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in the fall preceding
application or earlier (I.E. - If applying for matriculation
into the fall '09 then the GRE must be received no later than
Nov. 15th, 2008.) Those students following a four-semester
program must complete this test soon after beginning the sophomore
year. Appropriate preparation and selection of a curriculum
that contributes to an acceptable score are strongly suggested.
Applicants
who do not have GRE scores submitted by November 15 will not
be considered for acceptance. GRE scores are only valid for
five years from the date taken the test was taken.
The
LSU SVM requires all applicants to take the General Graduate
Record Exam (subject-specific exams are not accepted). The LSU
SVM uses both the raw scores and the percentile scores in evaluating
applicants. Only the highest total exam score is used, not the
highest two sections from different test scores. The writing
section of the GRE is not necessary for the LSU SVM; however
applicants are strongly advised to verify this with all other
schools of interest. GRE scores must be received by the LSU
SVM no later than November 15, 2008. Scores received after November
15th will not be accepted. Scores are only accepted via
electronic transfer directly from ETS and applicants
must have their scores resent for every application cycle.
The
LSU SVM is a separate school from LSU’s main campus and has
its own school code for the submissions of GRE scores. All GRE
scores must be sent to the following codes when submitting your
GRE scores to the LSU SVM:
SVM School Code -
6381 (Louisiana St U Vet Medicine)
Department Code - 0617
Failure
to use the exact school/department codes given above will result
in your scores NOT being received at the LSU SVM. Scores
sent to LSU's Graduate School will NOT be accessible by the
LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.
For
information about registering for the GRE, contact the Educational
Testing Service at 1-800-GRE-CALL or visit their web site at
www.gre.org.
What
does it take to be a competitive applicant? While the
minimum GPA for eligibility is a 3.00, just meeting the minimum
GPA requirement will not make an applicant competitive. There
is no minimum GRE score; however applicants should certainly
have a score as close to the average as possible (obviously
higher than the average is better). An applicant has to be competitive
on a broad scale, as there are three objective areas and two
subjective areas (for more qualified applicants) that are evaluated
during the admissions process. Interested applicants should
visit the "Previous Class Statistics"
page to get a better idea of what the class averages are that
it will take to be competitive in the applicant pool. It is
also strongly advised that interested applicants also read through
the "Applicant Selection Procedure"
page. |
