Welcome to WAZEM web
WAZEM web is home of the student
organization for Wildlife, Avian, Zoo, and Exotic animal medicine at
LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Our mission is to expose
vet students to the ample opportunities outside of traditional large
and small animal practice. Through various speakers, trips,
and hands-on "wetlabs," all of the facets of vet med can
be experienced, each encounter more interesting than the last.
About WAZEM
WAZEM is directed and maintained by the
veterinary students at LSU, therefore catering to our own interests
and directions in vet med. Our speakers have been
veterinarians from zoos, private clinicians, researchers, and
wildlife rehabilitators, just to name a few. Trips give us a
behind-the-scenes look at many animal and nature facilities, with an
emphasis on the veterinary care provided in these settings.
"Wetlabs" are interactive demonstrations of various
techniques used in veterinary medical practice, such as blood
drawing on snakes and turtles and nail trims on
elephants. All this adds more to the enumerable amount
of information given to us each day, but will make us better, more
educated, vets in the near future.
Explore our
website to see some of the pictures from trips we've taken,
activities we have planned, our officers, and how you can help us
raise money to help fund our trips and speakers!
