Finding a mentor:
It is important to find a mentor who is doing something
that interests you, who is interested in having you work
in their laboratory and has sufficient funding and time
to support your research. This may seem difficult.
However, over the years our students have told us that
they much prefer this selection process to one that
could be easier on the front end of the process but in
which they have less control. They also say once you get
started it is not a big deal. Faculty are friendly. Step
one: scan the list below which is divided into rather
broad areas and pick some faculty here and or at the
TNPRC, PBRC, Biological Science, or the NHDP whose
research seems interesting to you. Go to their websites
and learn more about them. Talk to former students about
your ideas. Talk to Drs. Baker, Klei or Taboada about
your ideas. Approach the faculty by e-mail or directly
and see what ideas they may have. If you have questions
talk to Drs. Baker, Klei and/or Taboada again. It works.
For Non-LSU students contact us first and we will help
in the selection process.
