Canine Immunodeficiency Virus

To return to the IALA Homepage: IALA
This file is for the CIV information for the IALA Homepage --- WHEN & IF --- a canine lentivirus is identified.
The first component of this file will be a summary of information about CIV written in more-or-less lay terminology. The second component will be a more defined description of the effects of CIV on dogs - information which has been produced by experimental and field-type investigations. The third component will be a set of published literature citations on various aspects of the disease process.

Part one: Canine Immunodeficiency Virus has not been identified as a specific lentivirus. There are several reports of isolation of certain viruses, called retroviruses, which may be in the lentivirus family. There is a possible association between the retroviruses which have been isolated and the development of disease processes in the dogs which were infected.
More will be added later.

Part Three: Selected references on Canine Immunodeficiency Virus.
