VTH&C House Officers, 2009–2010

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences provides graduate professional training to interns and residents (House Officers) through the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Clinics. Interns and residents are recruited and selected through the Veterinary Intern and Resident Matching Program. One-year rotating internships are available in companion animal medicine and surgery and large animal medicine and surgery (equine emphasis). Two- or three-year residency programs are available in companion animal medicine, companion animal surgery, dermatology, equine medicine, equine surgery, theriogenology, and zoological medicine. Concurrent graduate academic studies leading to the MS degree may be arranged in a variety of concentrations. New House Officers begin their programs in July. The current House Officers are as follows:

Dr. Jennifer Ayoub, Small Animal Internal Medicine resident, received her DVM from LSU in 2008. She recently completed a Small Animal Internal and Emergency Medicine Internship at Greenbrier Veterinary Referral Center in Chesapeake, Va.

Dr. David Beehan, Theriogenology resident, received his Bachelors of Veterinary Medicine (MVB) from the Veterinary College of Ireland in Dublin, Ireland, in 2006.

Dr. Apryl Barton, Companion Animal Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from The Ohio State University in 2009.

Dr. Hugues Beaufrere, Zoological Medicine resident, received his DVM from the National Veterinary School of Lyon, France, in 2006. He then completed a small animal and exotics medicine internship at the Brasseur Veterinary Clinic in Manage, Belgium, and an avian and exotics medicine internship at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Myra Durham, Equine Surgery resident, received her DVM from North Carolina State University in 2007. She then completed a large animal medicine and surgery internship at the University of Georgia. She completed an Equine Medicine and Surgery internship at LSU in July 2009.

Dr. Dionne Ferguson, Companion Animal Medicine resident, received her DVM from LSU in 2007. She then completed a small animal internship at the Louisiana Veterinary Referral Center in Mandeville, La.

Dr. Jocelyn Garber, Companion Animal Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from Kansas State University in 2009.

Dr. Claudia Gardner, Equine Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from North Carolina State University in 2009.

Dr. Caroline Goutal, Small Animal Medicine resident, received her DVM from the National Veterinary School of Alfort in Paris, France, in 2008. She recently completed a Small Animal Medicine & Surgery Rotating Internship at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.

Dr. Gregg Griffenhagen, Anesthesia intern, received his DVM from LSU in 2009.

Dr. Timm Gudehus, Equine Surgery resident, graduated from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, in December 2003. After completion of this internship at a clinic located at the Munich racetrack, he received his Dr.med.vet at his alma mater. He completed a second internship/fellowship in equine orthopedics and imaging/sports medicine at California Equine Orthopedics in San Marcos, Calif., before coming to LSU for his equine surgery residency.

Dr. Jennifer Huck, Companion Animal Surgery resident, received her DVM from The Ohio State University in 2006. She then completed a small animal medicine and surgical rotating internship at Michigan State University and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Michelle Im Hof, Small Animal Medicine resident, received her DVM from the University of Bern in Bern, Switzerland, in 2008.

Dr. Melissa Kubai, Ophthalmology intern, received her DVM from the University of Wisconsin in 2008. She recently completed a Rotating Small Animal Internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists in Southfield, Mich.

Dr. Colleen Lambo, Companion Animal Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from Kansas State University in 2009.

Dr. Alexandre Le Roux, Diagnostic Imaging resident, received his DVM from the French National Veterinary School of Nantes (France) in 2006. He completed a Rotating Small Animal Medicine & Surgery Internship at the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, France in 2007 and a Diagnostic Imaging Internship at the National Veterinary School of Nantes (France) in 2008.

Dr. Melanie Mutz, Companion Animal Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from the University of Florida in 2009.

Dr. Denise Newsome, Equine Practice resident, received her BVSc from the University of Liverpool (Ireland) in 2005. She completed a Large Animal Rotating Internship at the University of Tennessee in 2006.

Dr. Melissa Parsons-Doherty, Medical Oncology resident, received her DVM in 2005 from Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. She completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship from Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and an Oncology Internship at the University of Georgia. Most recently, she was participating in a Medical Oncology Residency at The Ohio State University, where she obtained grants from the Morris Animal Foundation and Winn Feline Foundation.

Dr. Florence Polle, Equine Medicine resident, received her DVM from the National Veterinary College of Toulouse (France) in 2007. She recently completed a Rotating Large Animal Internship at Ontario Veterinary College (Guelph, Canada).

Dr. William Ratterree, Oncology intern, received his DVM from the University of Georgia in 2008. He recently completed a Companion Animal Medicine and Surgery internship at LSU.

Dr. Jeffery Ruth, Diagnostic Imaging intern, received his DVM from Texas A& M University in 2001.

Dr. Carley Saelinger, Cardiology resident, received her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007. She then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Florida. Dr. Saelinger completed her Cardiology internship at LSU in 2009.

Dr. Rodney Schnellbacher, Zoological Medicine intern, received his DVM from the University of Missouri in 2008. He completed an Anesthesia internship at LSU in July 2009.

Dr. Laura Sickafoose, Dermatology resident, received her DVM from the University of California, Davis in 2007. She then completed a general rotating internship at San Francisco Veterinary Specialists.

Dr. Lynne A. Snow, Companion Animal Surgery resident, received her DVM from the University of Illinois in 2004. She completed an internship with the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group in Ventura, Calif., as well as a surgical internship with the Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, Calif.

Dr. Kristen Tapp, Companion Animal Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from Oklahoma State University in 2009.

Dr. Megan Templeton, Companion Animal Surgery fellow, received her DVM from Western University of Health Sciences in 2007. She completed a Small Animal Rotating Medicine & Surgery Internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York, N.Y. in 2008, and she recently completed a Small Animal Surgery Internship at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center.

Dr. Rebekah Westermeyer, Dermatology resident, received her DVM from Iowa State University in 2006. In 1999, she received an MS in music from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to coming to LSU, Dr. Westermeyer was an associate/relief veterinarian for two of four Caring Hands Animal Hospitals in Centreville and Bristow, Va.

Dr. Sarah Wind, Companion Animal Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from Michigan State University in 2009.

Dr. Michelle Woodward, Equine Medicine & Surgery intern, received her DVM from the University of Tennessee in 2009.
